Thanks to the leadership and generosity of Howard and Betsy Chapman, a significant scholarship fund administered by FWSCI, through the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, Inc, exists to facilitate international exchange opportunities for high school-age students. The fund assists high school aged residents of Allen County to visit our sister cities. Funds can also be used to support students between the ages of 14 to 21 from our sister cities to travel to Fort Wayne. Please complete an application if you wish to be considered for an exchange opportunity.
The goal is to broaden the horizons of the exchange student by learning about different cultures. The underlying idea is that our countries will come more closely together if we understand each other better.
Over the years, hundreds of students have been given the chance to travel, study and immerse themselves in the culture of our Sister Cities.
There have been almost annual student exchanges between Fort Wayne and Gera, as well as Plock, and over 100 students have traveled between Fort Wayne and Takaoka. The Koshimae Foundation of Japan has provided additional funds for students from Allen County to go to Takaoka, Japan.
The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne will currently match dollar-for-dollar all contributions up to $10,000 to the Chapman Fund. Please consider making a donation.
