Ensemble Dix, a professional woodwind quartet from Fort Wayne’s sister city of Gera, Germany, will present a concert at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Sunday, August 28, at 4:00 pm. This concert is part of a weekend tour to Ft. Wayne in cooperation with Ft. Wayne Sister Cities International and will feature music of Johann Sebastian Bach arranged for woodwinds and soprano soloist.
“We are happy to host these excellent musicians and appreciate our cities’ cooperative efforts both here and in Gera,” remarked Kevin Hildebrand, Kantor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Hildebrand added that as the Lutheran church around the world prepares to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, initiated in 1517 by German pastor and theologian Martin Luther, this concert will mark the beginning of a year of such observances at St. Paul’s and in congregations worldwide.
“The Reformation had a tremendous impact on church music, and the work of Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the best examples,” Hildebrand continued.
Ensemble Dix is renowned for its performances of original compositions and arrangements of a wide variety of music, from the baroque period through the 20th century. Featuring flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, this ensemble has toured and recorded extensively throughout Germany.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is located at 1126 S. Barr Street in Fort Wayne. The August 28 concert is free and open to the public. Further details about Ensemble Dix, including audio and video samples, are available at www.ensemble-dix.de.
